gets right. The wind was blowing 5-20 and the water temp was around 68 in the river. We did manage
a nice thick keeper (see the picture) before they headed to the
UNC-ECU game and I headed to the UConn-NC State game. Oh yea, Greg, I did drink the Koolaid.
October 4, 2003

we ran out the Shallotte Inlet and caught 10 Spanish, keeping 3 nice ones. We came back into the
Shallotte River and caught 4 flounder, keeping 2. We had a nice day. Forgot the camera again!
September 27, 2003
Fished today with Eddie and sons Dan and Bryant from Newton Grove, NC. The winds picked up overnight

July 5, 2003
I fished today with Joe and his son Jordan from Fayetteville, NC. I picked them up at Blue Water Point
Marina at 7:30 and we fished the Lockwood Folly Inlet for a while and moved to the Shallotte River and
ate a nice breakfast at Hughes Marina. We fished the river with the other 50 boats. The waterway
was like being in a washing machine with it being a holiday and the King Tourney this weekend. We
caught 4 with one being a keeper. We fished hard and had a good time. Jordan really loves to fish
and will catch some big fish with the patience he has. The water is clearing again and the fishing
will get better soon. The wind was SW at 10-15 knots. Click here
for pictures.

On the second day of the tournament we were out and running for the 7:00 start. We fished Lockwood
Folly Inlet for the first hour then headed for the Shallotte River. High tide was at 8:48 and we
caught 7 flounder before 1:30. We had a 15", 14 1/2", 15 1/2" and a 22 1/2" that was 5.06 lbs.
The dirty water rolled in and then it rained like it wasn't going to get to do it again. Brian
said that the coffee-colored water looked like it had creamer in it. We caught 2 more nice drum
that were around 20 inches. A fish around 11 1/2 lb. won the tourney this year. It was caught in
the Lockwood Folly River early before the dirty water rolled in. That fish was the largest fish to
win the tourney in the 20-year histoy. We had a good time today. Click here
for the pictures.
June 13, 2003

Click here for the nice picture.
June 7, 2003
I fished today with my daughter Kristy and her boyfriend Bob, and one of my sons Matthew and his
girlfriend Kyle, and my wife Donna. We started out with threatening skies and ran down to the
Shallotte River. By nine it started to rain so we pulled into Hughes Marina for some breakfast.
It stopped raining and we got back to fishing. What started out as a fun trip turned competitive
and was neck to neck all day. Kyle had caught a 15" flounder to put herself and Matthew up in the
largest fish category. Then right before quitting time, Bob caught a 17 1/2" flounder to put himself and
Kristy in victory lane for the largest fish. Kyle and Matthew won the most fish category. We had
a fun day on the water despite getting wet a few times. We caught 8 flounder with 2 keepers 15" and
17 1/2". Click here for pictures.
June 6, 2003
I fished today with Annie and Phil from Wilson. I picked them up under the Holden Beach Bridge and
we went down the ICW to Hughes Marina for breakfast, after which we fished the Shallotte Inlet, River and
creeks. We caught 8 flounder with a 15 1/4" and two that were exactly 14 inches. Remember they will
shrink 1/4 of an inch when iced. We had a nice day on the water. Click
for picture.

68-80 degrees, and water temp ranged from 70-74 degrees. Click here
for the picture.
May 31, 2003
I fished today with Jeff, Vickie and Raven form Albermarle. It was a windy day with the wind out of
the SW at 15-35, water temp ranged from 69-73 degrees, air temp ranged from 65-82 degrees. We caught
5 flounder with 2 being 14 1/2" and 16 3/4". We didn't get a picture of the second one due to the winds
and tornado warnings as I was dropping them off at Hughes Marina and I had to make the 7 mile run up
the ICW. I think Raven has a future as a flounder pointer as he would stand on the front of
the boat and point in the direction of the flounder. Click here
for picture.
May 30, 2003
Fished today with Jeff from Raleigh. The monsoon rains from last night had added even more color to

not quitters! We caught 6 flounder, with 2 being 16 and 15 inchers, while having a good time picking on each
other. Click here to see picture.

the picture.
May 17, 2003
I fished today with my sons Kevin and Matthew, from Raleigh. The wind was out of the NE at 7-20 knots.

catching 8 fish, with 2 being 20" and 20 1/2". See the pictures here.
May 16, 2003
I fished today with Bob, Leo, Haynes and Kevin from Raleigh. The wind turned around last night and
it helped the fishing. We fished the incoming tide until around 9:00 and went to Hughes Marina
and had a delicious breakfast. We hit the water again in the Shallotte River and fished the falling tide.
The water warmed from 67 degrees to 72 degrees and the fish turned on. We ended up the day catching
16 with 3 being 15 3/4", 15 3/4", and 14 1/4". We had a really nice day. Click

May 14, 2003
I fished today with Gene from High Point. We fished the mouth of the Shallotte Inlet and the Shallotte
River and caught 5 flounder. They just would not bite very well today. Maybe the eclipse tonight
will help. The wind was WSW at 5-15 knots and the water temp ranged from 66-71 degrees. The water became
reddish on the falling tide. I always enjoy fishing with Gene.
May 3, 2003
I fished today with Kevin, Angel and Kathy from Raleigh and Nanny Margaret from near Lynchburg, Va.
The winds laid down overnight. George Jones showed up for them last night and the flounder did today.

We had caught 8 flounder at 12:45, with 3 being 14 1/2", 14 3/4", and 15". We brought in the lines and did
some cruising and sightseeing up the Shallotte River and back at the house at 3:00. It was a beautiful day
on the water and we had a great time. The water temp was 69 degrees and went to 72.3 degrees on the falling
tide from the warming of the flats. The wind was calm to 15. Click here
to see the pictures.
Looks like the season is a couple of
weeks ahead of the past couple of years. The bookings are rolling in so if there's a certain
date you want, get in touch with me.

April 21, 2003
I fished with Craig from Akron, Ohio and his son Dave from Wilmington, NC today. The sun came
out this morning and the wind died down early. The water warmed in the flats from 62 to 66 degrees
as the tide was falling. We caught 5 flounder with 4 being over 13 inches. One was 15 inches.
Excellent fishing is just a few weeks away. Click here for picture.

was still a little red. We managed to catch 3 flounder on a chilly day. It was a nice day on the
water. Click here to see picture.
April 5, 2003
I fished with Marvin and Brian today. The wind was still strong. We caught some mud minnows and
fished in the Shallotte River. We caught 5 flounder. Marvin was talking junk to Brian about his
17 1/2 inch flounder. Oh, yeah, we hit Hughes Marina for a bowl of clam chowder and some fried
sweet potatoes. It looks like its going to be a good year. Let's book a fishing date! Check
here to see the results.
April 4, 2003
Well, cabin fever got to me and I decided to give the flounder a chance to try and take a rod away
from me. The wind was howling as I made the run from Holden Beach to Shallotte Point. Joyce at
Tripp's Fishing Center said she would probably have minnows in a week or so. I set my trap and hung
a tooth in one of those cheeseburgers at CW's Restaurant at Hughes Marina. Went back to the trap and
had mud minnows. The flats warmed the water from 60.4 early to 64.2 around 2:00. The flounder have
started to move. I caught 6 but none met the new 14" minimum. The ocean side is now 15" minimum and
8 fish limit.
